Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS Master Students Workshop 2018

Yesterday, the sixteen MSc students who in March started developing their thesis at FhP-AICOS (Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS), presented their work and achievements so far to a broad audience, who included FhP-AICOS researchers and collaborators. This workshop allowed them to prepare for the public defence of the thesis, as well as to demonstrate the practical utility of their work.

 

FhP-AICOS offers students in Informatics and Computation Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Services Engineering, Multimedia, or similar fields the opportunity to work within the research teams and work towards a degree thesis at the same time. FhP-AICOS both submits and accepts MSc topic proposals related to the scientific expertise of the centre, having in mind its orientation for “Research of Practical Utility”.

This year we received sixteen students, who, after a period of project development within the professional environment of FhP-AICOS, had the opportunity to present their work in an internal session. In the audience were FhP-AICOS’ researchers and collaborators, as well as their thesis advisor. FhP-AICOS challenged students to present a compelling overview of their research, followed by a demonstration of the practical utility of their work.

This year, projects related to areas ranging from information processing, user experience, mobile devices, machine learning, activity monitoring, among others. The knowledge born from their work will be applied to areas such as ambient assistive living, health, nutrition, self-care, and personal safety. While some students are preparing to publicly defend their thesis this month, some will only do so in September.
