Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS develops high technology to optimize retailer’s product placement

9.8.2016

It is called ShopView and it leverages computer-vision technology for retailers who want to gain a competitive edge in product placement auditing. The solution developed by Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS relies on a drivable equipped platform which photographs shelves, recognizes the positioning of real products, evaluates product placement and reports errors in aisles covered by Buggy’s imaging system to store manager.

Co-promoted by WeDo Consulting Sistemas de Informação and Sonae Center Services, ShopView led to the development of a prototype that meets all of the functionality requirements planned, with a high level of confidence.

Towards the automatic integration with retail systems, the ShopView2Market project arises to complete the validation of the solution. This will be possible throughout a long-term pilot with demonstrators all over the world. AICOS and its partners propose to increase the usability of ShopView, promoting the adoption of the technology by retail businesses.

The 15-month project (number 6389 according to Portugal 2020) is co-funded by the European Structural Investment Funds (ESIF) from European Union, framed in the COMPETE 2020 (Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalisation).
