São Tomé and Príncipe: a suitable country for SV4D

11.9.2017

The second stop of the presentation of the project Sustainable Villages for Development was in São Tomé and Príncipe. ICT based answers to some problems of the country were presented by the team from Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS, that joined the local authorities in a discussion forum, held at Camões, I.P., in São Tomé, on August 30th.

After Cape Verde, was the time for São Tomé and Príncipe to know the project Sustainable Villages for Development (SV4D). Besides its main purposes, promoting broadband Internet services and the access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), the project also aims to implement a network of labs for Research and Development (R&D) and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) initiatives. With this, it will be possible to implement digital services and platforms, able to solve ICT problems in different areas, namely: knowledge, health, education, economy, commerce, freedom, environment, governance and security.

For each area, several already developed projects can be adapted and deployed. It is the case of the project Malaria Scope, a mobile-based solution that can provide an effective pre-diagnosis of Malaria to be used in medically underserved areas.
