To foster this idea, Fraunhofer AICOS conducted a serie of visits to selected research centres in Germany, having visited: Fraunhofer FIT, Fraunhofer IESE and Fraunhofer IAO.

An active and close cooperation with other Fraunhofer Institutes is one of the core pillars of AICOS’ success strategy. Building on this, a team of AICOS’ researchers was in Germany visiting 3 Fraunhofer Institutes, aiming at identifying complementary competences to enhance the R&D work developed within these institutions.

Day 1 of the tour was dedicated to Fraunhofer FIT – Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology. Fraunhofer FIT conducts R&D on user-friendly smart solutions that blend seamlessly with business processes, providing research, development and consulting services for partners in the private and public sectors, aggregated in five business areas: Management of Cooperation and Innovation; Life Science Informatics; Internet of Things / Energy Efficiency; Usability and User Experience Design; and Sustainable Finance Management.

On day 2 our team of researchers visited Fraunhofer IESE – Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering – who specialises in research and collaboration with partners to develop trendsetting key technologies for tomorrow.

On the 3rd and final day of our visits to Fraunhofer Institutes in Germany, our team visited Fraunhofer IAO – Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering. Fraunhofer IAO research units operate in the following business areas: Organisational Development and Work Design; Service and Human Resources Management; Human-Technology Interaction; Digital Business; Cognitive Engineering and Production; Urban Systems Engineering; Mobility and Innovation Systems; and Responsible Research and Innovation.

Important to mention is that the main focus driving this visits and work meetings is the exchange of knowledge and experiences resulting from Human-Centred Design and Usability projects, especially in the areas of Health an Industry 4.0.
