Since early 2024, Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS (FhP-AICOS) has been actively collaborating with Fraunhofer FOKUS on the development and enhancement of Piveau, an advanced open data management platform that underpins data.europa.eu — the official portal for European data and statistics.
This strategic partnership brings together the complementary expertise of two Fraunhofer institutes, uniting FOKUS’ leadership in digital governance with AICOS’ experience in connected systems. As part of this joint effort, a dedicated team from FhP-AICOS' Connected Things (CT) group is integrated into the core Piveau development team.
The project aims to boost the platform’s functionality, accessibility, and overall performance. More specifically, FhP-AICOS contributes to improving the way datasets — comprising metadata and various data distributions — are managed, accessed, and interpreted within the piveau ecosystem. These enhancements will further empower public institutions and data providers across Europe to manage high-quality open data, promoting transparency, innovation, and evidence-based policymaking.
By working in close collaboration, Fraunhofer FOKUS and FhP-AICOS are reinforcing the foundations of Europe’s open data infrastructure, helping shape a future where data is more usable, accessible, and impactful.
