FhP-AICOS continues to solidify its position as a leading hub for impactful technological development. Recently, three of our key innovations across two European projects - MLSysOps and ACHILLES - received significant recognition from the European Commission’s Innovation Radar. These distinctions highlight the high quality of our research and its readiness to transition from the lab to the market.
Instead of focusing solely on continuous technical development, FhP-AICOS is actively shifting gears towards "go-to-market" strategies for these initiatives. By exploring dedicated European support programs, such as Dealflow.eu and the Horizon Results Booster, our teams are working to transform novel research results into marketable products and services, strengthening our core innovation paths.
We are actively assessing opportunities to leverage dedicated European support programmes, such as Dealflow.eu and the Horizon Results Booster, to accelerate the future transformation of promising research outcomes into market-ready products and services, reinforcing our commitment to creating real-world impact through innovation.
The Innovation Radar officially identified FhP-AICOS as a "Key Innovator" for the FITA framework (Far-Edge IoT Device Management), developed within the EU-funded MLSysOps project. Classified as "Tech Ready", the innovation was praised for its advanced technological preparation and its potential to address the direct needs of existing markets. Originally developed through the doctoral work of our researchers, FITA is now poised for its next big phase: business model maturation and commercialization.
Also, FhP-AICOS scored a double success within the ACHILLES project, which we coordinate, with two separate innovations securing a "High" Market Creation Potential rating:
- Value Sensitive Design (VSD) method for human-centred AI ("Tech Ready"): Developed by our Human-Centred Design (HCD) group, this methodology ensures that human values, ethics, and user needs are directly embedded into AI systems from day one.
- Modular IDE for trustworthy AI development ("Market Ready"): On the technical side, this integrated development environment focuses on reliable AI solutions. FhP-AICOS is responsible for a large portion of its modules - including bias detection and mitigation, explainability, and robustness testing - as well as contributing to the AI-based Copilot that accompanies the IDE (IDE is specifically led by our partner Axiologic Research).
As Carlos Resende, Senior Researcher at FhP-AICOS explains, "This achievement reflects our active contribution to the project and to the European tech landscape by sharing open-source innovation with the community. By recognizing our innovation's market potential, the EU Innovation Radar experts have highlighted our role as key partners in developing future technologies that solve real industry challenges."
"This is a dual recognition of the innovation of an ambitious project, both from a human-centered perspective, to ensure that critical systems incorporate human values, and from a technological perspective, to democratize AI development in a reliable way. However, we are aware that the true value will only be realized when these innovations are truly accessible and applied to real-world problems.", highlights FhP-AICOS' Senior Researcher, André Carreiro.
This wave of international acknowledgment underscores FhP-AICOS’ core mission: turning cutting-edge science into practical, market-ready innovation that drives digital transformation, trustworthiness, and economic competitiveness.
