Fostering AI adoption in the Portuguese Food Industry
The DigitalFOOD project is built on a strategic collaboration between PortugalFoods and Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS, aiming to accelerate the digital transformation of the food sector through the integration of knowledge, technology, and innovation.
This partnership establishes a strong synergy between industry and research, combining PortugalFoods’ deep connection to the agri-food ecosystem with Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS’ expertise in digital technologies, data-driven solutions, and human-centered innovation.
Objectives:
DigitalFOOD is designed to empower companies and their human resources with the skills and tools needed to adopt and operate cutting-edge digital technologies. The project promotes the transition towards more autonomous, flexible, and monitorable processes across the food value chain.
A key focus is the development and dissemination of digital platforms capable of collecting, processing, and analysing data related to critical indicators such as greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, and operational performance. These platforms will enable continuous monitoring of key metrics and support the identification of actionable operational insights.
Beyond technology adoption, the project also aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the sector through demonstration and knowledge-sharing effects, fostering wider uptake of digital tools and solutions across SMEs.
In addition, DigitalFOOD promotes the dissemination of best practices and case studies, while supporting the creation of specialized employment and the upskilling of human resources within the sector.
