Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS is one of the several institutions, aiming to transform the economy of Porto, in exhibition at Porto Innovation Hub. The centre has selected three project prototypes for exhibition, namely: MalariaScope, Pandlets and Active@Home. The opening ceremony occurred on Thursday (May 25th), with the presence of the Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, and the event will be open until June 30th, at Praça da Trindade.

Malaria, hardware and physical activity are the subjects of the chosen projects developed by Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS. The MalariaScope project aims to create a mobile-based solution that can provide an effective pre-diagnosis of Malaria, to be used in medically underserved areas, as well as a magnification gadget that can be connected to a smartphone and provide the necessary magnification capability. To measure human behaviour and environmental context, the hardware platform Pandlets includes a set of sensing capabilities and an Android Application Programming Interface that allows for seamlessly integration of external hardware into Android’s platform. Focused on physical, cognitive and social aspects, Active@Home promotes physical activity at home and fosters fall prevention, based on typical exergames, dance and Tai Chi.

During the exhibition Transformar a Economia (Transform the Economy), these projects will be showcased to the visitors. The initiative gathers key players from universities, institutions, associations and companies, such as UP – University of Porto, P.Porto – Polytechnic of Porto, UPTEC – Science and Technology Park of University of Porto, PDF – Porto Design Factory, ANJE – National Association of Young Entrepreneurs, Founders Founders, Porto i/o, Sonae, Efacec Power Solutions, Tintas CIN, Corticeira Amorim and Omniflow. The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 18:00.

The opening ceremony started with the presentation of the book A Inovação na Transformação da Cidade (The Innovation at the City’s Transformation), a report about 24 debates that were promoted by Porto Innovation Hub.
